However Alexander the Great is undeniably one of the greatest generals who ever lived, and obviously war was a large part of his life. When I first had the idea for The Virtues of War—a novel about Alexander the Great—the narration came to me in the first-person. Steven Pressfield's 2004 book, The Virtues of War: A Novel of Alexander the Great (NY, Doubleday, ISBN 0385500998) is told from the first-person narrative point-of-view of Alexander.
